a built-in bookshelf in an upper east side condo unit was designed to fill an awkward living room niche.  the composition of the bookshelf aligned with the existing furniture, while the material palette of walnut and opal acrylic complemented the room’s decor.  the client requested that the bookshelf be designed as a permanent fixture, yet the bookshelf has the ability to “unlock” and roll on hidden casters to another desired location with ease.
