chelsea enlargement

new york, ny
15,880 s.f.
unbuilt 2017

this proposal in a vertical enlargement to an existing (6) story residential building in the chelsea neighborhood.  the design challenge was how to aesthetically approach an vertical enlargement to the ubiquitous nyc building typology built decades ago.  the enlargement is clad in white anodized aluminum panels, with milled vertical fins to give the facade articulation and depth.  the enlargement follows the “h” massing of the existing building.
